Plans and objectives

Krzysztof Penderecki, the most famous and influential modern composer, will be directing the second »penderecki musik:akademie westfalen im forum mariengarden burlo« from 12th August to 1st September 2013.

The »penderecki musik:akademie westfalen im forum mariengarden burlo« is the summer orchestra academy forming part of the international classical music festival »musik:landschaft westfalen« which has been held since 2009. It is designed as an annual summer academy with international participation, featuring well-known teachers who give orchestra academies, master-classes for individual instruments, composition workshops or courses on certain themes.

The »penderecki musik:akademie westfalen im forum mariengarden burlo« was set up as a European cultural initiative, drawing inspiration equally from this region of Europe, from a national cultural profile and from European identity.

An international orchestra of young musicians will be rehearsing works by Penderecki and other composers and giving performances of them as part of the »musik:landschaft westfalen« festival. Given Penderecki’s importance in international music life, this »musik:landschaft westfalen« festival will be communicated – and seen – as a world-class cultural event.

In addition to Krzysztof Penderecki, the Polish conductor Maciej Tworek will also be conducting work sessions and concerts. Principals and soloists from well-known German orchestras will be acting as tutors.

Participation in the »penderecki musik:akademie westfalen im forum mariengarden burlo« is free of charge.
