The Summer Academy is bound up with the name of Krzysztof Penderecki, who lead and taught the orchestra academy in 2012 – and will also do in 2013.
The Polish composer, conductor and music teacher Krzysztof Penderecki is considered to be one of the most important modern composers.
Krzysztof Penderecki has had close ties with the »musik:landschaft westfalen« festival since its inception. In 2009, the first year of the festival, Penderecki was its artistic director, opening it with a performance of his monumental symphonic cantata »The Seven Gates of Jerusalem« in St. Paul’s Cathedral in Münster.
The association with Krzysztof Penderecki, with his personality and artistic achievements, is a stroke of good fortune for the »musik:akademie westfalen«. Penderecki’s international career began in 1966 with a performance of his »St. Luke’s Passion« in Münster. In subsequent years he kept up his close ties with the Münsterland and Westphalia.
Krzysztof Penderecki is active as an important music teacher and promoter of young talent. A central focus of his compositional work is music on sacred and religious themes.
